Sticks and Stones

Remember the words from days of old
And all the sayings; the stories told?
“Sticks and Stones
 Can break your bones?”
But the words that were said
Go to the heart, not just to the head.
Is it true the things you say?
Will you leave or will you stay?
Mind games and trips; oh how they hurt
Walk on eggshells; stay on alert!
When will the fighting ever end?
Are you just a rival; are you not my friend?
Yes, Sticks and Stones can bury me.
From harsh words; then, I’d be set free.
